CINEMATOGRAPHY TODAY

Movie-making on digital media is a worldwide giant revolution in Advertising for Television as well as in mainstream Cinema. Some of the most high-profile blockbuster Films*, Ads  and TV Serials in recent times have been shot on Digital SLR’s such as the RED1 (for Film) and Canon’s 5D Mark II (for T.V. Advertising – one of the most in-demand career areas for which there are very few trained specialists available).
* ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, ‘Fair Game’, ‘District 9’, ‘Angels & Demons’ and many others

Keeping abreast of the latest trends, NICC is the first college in India to introduce a formal program in movie-making on Digital SLRs. Students are specifically trained on the 5D Mark II* and the smaller 7D’s and 550D’s. Using the RED1 is a virtually identical experience to using the 5D and requires no separate training other than that acquired on the this camera, since they are both DSLR’s.
*The most widely-used camera in the world of DSLR Ad-Films. See examples through the links above.

Just as Digital Still Photography has almost completely replaced Film stills, Digital Film Production is rapidly replacing traditional celluloid as the medium of choice. NICC training includes Pre-Production, Production and Digital Post-Production (including Editing), and direct training on the 5D Mark II. Traditional Film techniques and processes are also taught in order to complete the students’ awareness of the field.

Incidentally, at Manipal University’s recent all-India event, “Reeload” the First Prize in the Ad-Film category was won by NICC. The film was shot on a Canon DSLR.
